✍🏻 Writer’s Quotes to Live By
“I'm a guy desperately in need of buffers. I have big feelings, big reactions, big emotions. All the things that serve me as an artist, but challenge me as a socially-responsible human being.”
— Kurt Sutter
✍🏾Kurt Sutter Out of the ‘Mayans M.C.’ Club
Sons of Anarchy genius, Kurt Sutter is riding on the fumes of his spinoff Mayans M.C. is OUT with the Disney mouse. Kury was fired from his executive producer post on the FX series Mayans M.C. after several complaints were submitted from cast and crew against Kurt. In the claims it’s stated that he created a “climate of hostility, favoritism and enabled a set where no one felt safe or appreciated.”
Kurt blames his struggle with what he deems censorship from Disney since the acquisition of 20th Century Fox TV/Fox 21 TV Studios acquisition.
“I’ve felt the creative scrutiny of Disney from day one,” he writes (read the full letter below). “Notes on scripts and cuts have been heavy handed. Demanding a level of dumbing-down story and inane PC restraints like I’ve never experienced before. I genuinely feared for the creative future of the storytelling. So I pushed back. Hard.”
Disney censorship is a topic that has been stated by tons of creatives before, but in Kurt’s case he is known as a man who will fight in the public.
This is not a great thing to be accused of, especially in this day and age of ‘cancel culture.’ We’ll see how this washes out, but for now I can’t see a way that Kurt doesn’t sign an exclusive deal with a streaming network, hoping to land the next “Sons of Anarchy.”
✍️ Jade Bartlett set to pen ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’
This is breaking news as screenwriter Jade Bartlett is set to write “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” for Marvel studios. Details of the film are still under wraps, but during the Marvel presentation at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige said the “Doctor Strange” sequel will be “the first scary MCU film.” But, Feige joked “It’s gonna be PG-13 and you’re going to like it!”
Bartlett’s script “Miller’s Girl” was voted to the 2016 Black List of Hollywood’s best-unproduced screenplays and was optioned by Good Universe for Bartlett to direct and Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s Point Grey banner to produce.
Bartlett is represented by UTA, Heroes and Villains Entertainment and attorney Matthew Wallerstein. “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” will be released on May 7, 2021.
✍🏻 Netflix’s Earnings Hold…For Now
Netflix the king of the streaming wars, holds the throne in which everyone(Disney, Apple+, HBO Max) is coming for, announced their Q3 Earnings for last quarter, and two huge ideas were gleamed.
International growth will be vital for Netflix
Fans are fickle with interest
Let’s dive in:
Some of Netflix’s biggest hits aren’t even in English, but are driving subscribers growth through the roof. They’re banking on these international gems to continue their engine growth that’s been feeding this streaming machine. Revealed is a majority of tsubscriberrbr growth has come internationally only this last quarter.
Sheridan noted the second season of “Sacred Games” in India and the third season of “La Casa de Pael” in Spain, both returning shows during Q3, spurred increased interest for Netflix abroad.
QUICK SUMMARY OF Q2: The domestic hits were mixed, but the fans attention held.
“Stranger Things” was a slam dunk when Season 3 set a company record by getting streamed by 40 million accounts in the three days following its early July return.
“Mindhunter” showed “increased interest” from fans and
“Orange Is the New Black” enjoyed a relative boost to prior seasons, while the latest season of
“13 Reasons Why” nosedived in the ratings as fans figured out the third season was “creatively unnecessary”, and stopped feverishly watching as a result.
Netflix is hoping this quarter of hits will help retain Netflix users from jumping ship to the Apple+, Disney sharks that are all circling the water.
